'Flipped' getting good buzz There's some good early buzz for "Flipped," the Rob Reiner-directed movie that was shot in the Ann Arbor area in the summer of 2009. The '50s-set family-friendly film follows the coming-of-age relationship of a young girl and boy from elementary school to junior high, and stars Madeline Carroll and Callan McAuliffe in the lead roles, with a cast that includes Rebecca De Mornay, Anthony Edwards, John Mahoney, Penelope Ann Miller and Aidan Quinn.
The Los Angeles Times has already described "Flipped" as "a real comeback for Reiner," who directed such classics as "This is Spinal Tap," "Stand by Me" and "When Harry Met Sally."
It's scheduled to open in metro Detroit on Aug. 27.

Horror film planned for Muskegon gets moved out of state after tax credits denied
Muskegon's opportunity to shine again in the movie spotlight has been extinguished by Michigan officials, who couldn't swallow plans to film a cannibalistic horror movie sequel here.
The movie's director, who had hoped to start work Aug. 2, plans to move filming to Massachusetts after the state rejected his request for a tax credit.
"It's such a load of crap," Andrew van den Houten said in a phone interview Thursday from New York. "We were going to get so many people jobs."

"30 Minutes or Less", produced by Ben Stiller, is taking place in Grand Rapids
A major motion picture being filmed in West Michigan could have a few scenes shot in Kalamazoo.
Most of the filming for “30 Minutes or Less,” a comedic heist movie being produced by Ben Stiller, is taking place in Grand Rapids. But the film’s production teams are scouring the region for a location for a specific scene in the movie, said Rick Hert of the West Michigan Film Office.
Crews are looking for a closed bank with at least six to eight teller positions and a large lobby area, Hert said, adding that venues “from Ludington to Kalamazoo” were being looked at. Filming of the scene would take place over 10 days in August.

'Scream 4' to film flashback scene at Dearborn School |

'Scream 4' to film flashback scene at Dearborn's Woodworth Middle School
According to Dearborn blogger Said Deep, the horror film "Scream 4" will shoot a scene in Dearborn in the coming weeks.
According to Deep, the scene will be a flashback and the production crew chose Woodworth Middle School as a stand-in for a school used in an earlier "Scream" film.
The school was chosen because the "design and brickwork closely match" the other school, but crews will still need to modify the structure. They'll be putting a new "face" on the school's entrance before filming there.
"Scream 4" is filming mostly in Ann Arbor this month and next.

In Our Time - Exclusive Pre-Release Interview
IN OUR TIME, a major motion picture, starring Michigan actor DJ Perry as Jesus of Nazareth.
The story of Jesus intrigues and inspires us, and has been told in film through features such as “Jesus of Nazareth,” “The Greatest Story Ever Told,” “King of Kings” and “The Passion of the Christ.” Now, “In Our Time” again explores this fascinating story, and dares to ask “what if?” What if Jesus was born in our century, rather than over 2,000 years ago? What if his birth happened within our lifetimes, in our modern culture, – and how would that affect the world in which we live?

Prepping for Pilots - CDs Brett Greenstein and Collin Daniel have cast more than their share of them.
After apprenticing with some of the most prolific casting directors in the business, Brett Greenstein and Collin Daniel decided to join forces and strike out on their own. Five years later, the duo, based in Los Angeles, boasts a wide array of credits, ranging from the family-friendly comedies "10 Things I Hate About You" and "Rita Rocks" to the much-hyped "Melrose Place" reboot. The partnership works, says Greenstein, because they both like to have fun and are "even-keeled, mild-tempered people." Adds Daniel, "At the end of the day, we're just casting a TV show; we're not saving the world here."

Carpe Millennium the Movie |

Carpe Millennium
Everyone has goals; some dream big and reach for the stars while others have more immediate ones. Kevin (Steven Yeun) has just one goal - to lose his virginity on the eve of the new millennium. 'Carpe Millennium' is a comedy about a guy who wants to lose his virginity on the eve of the Year 2000. In order to do this, he starts telling lies about knowing a famous celebrity. As the lies get bigger and bolder, more and more women take interest in him. Just as he's about to get lucky, the celebrity shows up and things take a turn for the worst!
Although the films run time is about 18 minutes long and took 4 days to shoot, a lot of time and thought went into it. In fact, 17 drafts and 4 years of director Eric Bednarowicz's time to be exact, while writing the final draft on set. With such little time spent shooting the film, don't think that was all that was put into the film: it took two weeks to build an overhead lighting truss system into the on-location ceiling and mount several false walls and actors rehearsed more than thirty working hours for the project.

Stoner comedy 'High School,' filmed in Howell, gets rave reviews at Sundance |
|
Wednesday, 27 January 2010 07:53 |
|
"High School," a comedy starring Adrien Brody, Michael Chiklis and Matt Bush undoubtedly deserves every "outrageous" adjective thrown its way by reviewers.
The movie is about a couple of high school students who attempt to get their entire student body high off bake sale brownies, while Adrien Brody plays a totally bonkers, law-quoting marijuana grower named "Psycho Ed."
But the film is also being called "hilarious " by a number of the movie elite who saw it air at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday night, and pretty much everyone is agreeing on one thing -- it's a good movie. Period.

DIY Filmmaking | Think Outside the Box Office and Tips from Bomb It!’s Jon Reiss
I spent Sunday evening flipping through Winter 2010’s edition of Filmmaker Magazine, fresh off the press for January. I stumbled across two excellent DIY articles, one called REMIND (p84) penned by its aspiring editor, the filmmaker Scott Macaulay that reported on several hot do-it-yourself trends from 2009, some of which set to become the norm for the coming decade and beyond. The second was by the excellent guest editor Alicia Van Couvering (“SLUMPDAYS,” p90), who gave a clever summary of five Sundance-entry films that recently shattered the independent funding sound barrier using innovative crowdsourced fundraising approaches which helped catapult these titles all the way to Park City.
For all you indie filmmakers out there, these are less ironclad stepwise prescriptions to follow rather than helpful departure points to jog your memory and inspire you as you go about your own filmmaking odyssey.
